What fits in a 16 yard skip?

    • Large-scale building and refurbishment waste
    • Office, shop and warehouse clear-outs
    • Bulky furniture and fittings from large properties
    • Light materials such as timber, plastics and packaging

Is a 16 yard skip the right size?

It suits projects that would fill a 12 yard skip more than once. For ongoing commercial waste or even larger volumes, our roll on roll off skips run from 20 to 40 yards.

    Loading and weight

A 16 yard skip is for light, bulky waste. It can’t be loaded with soil or hardcore because of weight limits; use a 4 yard skip or grab hire for heavy material.

Do I need a skip permit?

If the skip goes on your drive or other private land, you don’t need a permit. If it has to sit on the road or pavement, the council must issue a skip permit first, and we can organise it for you when you book. See our area pages for council-by-council guidance.

How long can I keep the skip?

Our standard hire is 7 days, which gives you time to finish the job without rushing. If you need it for longer, let us know when you book and we’ll arrange a collection that suits you.

    16 yard skip FAQs

How much does a 16 yard skip cost?

16 yard skips are priced on request so we can check access and waste type. Please request a quote or call 0161 465 9268.

How many bin bags does a 16 yard skip hold?

Approximately 170–220 standard bin bags, or about 12 cubic metres of waste.

Is a 16 yard skip the same as a RoRo?

No. A 16 yard skip is lifted on a standard skip lorry. Roll on roll off containers (20–40 yards) are pulled onto a hook-loader lorry and suit continuous commercial waste.

Can I put soil and rubble in a 16 yard skip?

No. Heavy waste would take it over its safe weight. Use a smaller skip or grab hire for soil, rubble and hardcore.

What can’t go in a skip?

Plasterboard, asbestos, fridges and freezers, tyres, paint, batteries and gas bottles must be kept out of a general waste skip. If you’re unsure about an item, ask us before you load it.
